Scholarships

Each year we are proud to hand out three scholarships to new graduates of Williams Bay High School, students who we feel represent the values of the Williams Bay Women’s Civic League.

In 2026 we are introducing the Alice J. Morava Scholarship in remembrance of one of our most outstanding Civic League members.

The Alice J. Morava Scholarship

Educator - Civic Leader - Philanthropist

Given in recognition of a student who embodies her values: kindness, leadership, service, and a love of learning.

The Williams Bay Women's Civic League is honored to present The Alice J. Morava Scholarship, established in memory of an extraordinary woman - and former president of our organization - who devoted her life to her family, friends, and community.

Alice J. Morava was an educator, avid reader, and advocate for lifelong learning. She studied history and elementary education before earning a Master of Science in Education from UW-Whitewater. Later, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Aurora University.

Alice taught at Williams Bay Elementary School and served on the school board for 13 years. She generously donated the Crofts Morava Pavilion at Carroll University and the library at Gateway Technical College in addition to serving both schools as a Trustee.

Students at Carroll University and UW-Whitewater have also benefited from the scholarships she established.

Alice contributed to many other organizations that continue to enrich our community including Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy, which she was instrumental in founding The Friends of Kishwauketoe. This vibrant conservancy not only provides enjoyment for surrounding communities, but also helps ensure that the waters of Geneva Lake stay clean and beautiful for future generations.

This scholarship honors Alice Morava's legacy by supporting students who embody her values: kindness, leadership, service and a love of learning.

Badger Girl

Since our inception the Williams Bay Women’s Civic League has been selecting one student from the Williams Bay High School junior class as Badger Girl.

A student that we feel exemplifies our mission, and is deserving of attending the Wisconsin Badger Girls State program. A government and leadership conference for young women in high school.

The week-long program teaches participants the principles of democracy and state government through a "learn by doing" approach. The girls create their own simulated 51st state called "Badger".

Attendees form cities and political parties, develop platforms, and elect their own city, county, and state officials.

Exciting news! Our 2026 Alice J. Morava scholarship recipient and Badger Girl will have a featured interview on our website, stay tuned!
